Dr. DeShara C. Doub is a dedicated leader, author, public speaker, scholar, and mental health professional committed to social justice, equity, and the wellbeing of marginalized communities. She is the Founder and CEO of Vision of Promise LLC, where she integrates clinical expertise, education, advocacy, and collaborative approaches to support individuals, couples, families, and communities. Guided by the belief that individuals are the experts in their own lives, Dr. Doub values inclusive, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches to healing and personal growth. Her professional expertise encompasses multicultural issues, premarital and couples counseling, grief and loss, spirituality and religion, and racial trauma.
Dr. Doub earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from Louisiana State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication, with a minor in Pan African Studies, and a Master of Science in Social Work, specializing in Couple and Family Therapy, from the University of Louisville. Additionally, she holds a certificate in Black Church Studies from Louisville Seminary and is an ordained minister. Her scholarly interests center on intergenerational racial trauma within historically Black and African American institutions, with particular attention to the historical, cultural, spiritual, and mental health significance of the Black Church. Through her scholarship and professional work, she seeks to advance culturally grounded approaches to healing, strengthen mental health awareness, and contribute to conversations about the ensuring effects of racial trauma across generations.
Her professional qualifications include Level 1 Clinical Pastoral Education and a certification as a Prepare/Enrich facilitator for premarital and couples programming. Her diverse clinical and professional experiences span private practice, youth services, hospital chaplaincy in palliative care and oncology, crisis stabilization, educational settings, and mental health services. These experiences inform her interdisciplinary approach to addressing the emotional, relational, spiritual, and sociocultural dimensions of wellbeing.
Dr. Doub’s advocacy and contributions to mental health, leadership, and community service have earned her numerous honors. These include the Emerging Leader Honoree recognition at the University of Louisville’s 2024 Wilson Wyatt Alumni Awards; recognition as an “Up & Coming” achiever at the 2022 Minority Achievers Awards through the Center for Leadership Development; and the Way to Go Woman in Leadership honor from Today’s Woman magazine in 2021. She also received the Dr. Annie Lawrence Brown Mental Health Award from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Additional distinctions include recognition as an Outstanding Educator for her work as a Mental Health Practitioner, multiple honors from the University of Louisville, and state and congressional recognition for her leadership and community service.
Committed to service, mentorship, and institutional engagement, Dr. Doub maintains active involvement in civic, educational, and professional organizations. Her leadership and service have included participation on the University of Louisville Alumni Board of Directors, involvement with the Washington Township Schools Foundation, and service as a Community Advisor for the Restorative Solutions Committee at the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work & Family Science. She has also participated in the Leadership Louisville executive program, further strengthening her commitment to collaborative leadership and community impact.
Through her work as a scholar, clinician, educator, author, and speaker, Dr. Doub bridges research and practice to advance mental health, promote culturally responsive care, preserve Black history and culture, and foster healing within individuals, families, institutions, and communities. Her mission is rooted in transforming knowledge into action, amplifying historically marginalized voices, and cultivating spaces where healing, equity, and meaningful change can flourish.
